In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
the user can touch the interface and move it.

What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
The interfaces works by itself just by being there, it works best when it is actively closed or opened. But the door just being there works.

How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
It plays a part in interaction between people, it also influences the control a person can have over a space. By using the door I can make it colder, warmer, I can stop sound and stop smell.

3. The bird singing in the garden
What are the material or immaterial properties of the ‘interface’?
It is a living thing, brown coloured, it makes sound.

Who is the ‘user’ (can be more than one) of the ‘interface’?
The other birds are the users, but also the insects, the people who hear the bird.

Which ‘systems’ and/or ‘users’, are connected by means of the ‘interface’?
The ecosystem of our garden, the connection of human and bird. The bird and the bird

What/who does the interface give access to?
The bird gives access tot his life, as he communicates with his sound and the user can hear that. So if this is mating or anything else, everybody who hears it can have access to it’s reasons. The bird singing is a signifier. The bird also gives access to the natural wellbeing of the garden, a lot of birds is good. It also gives insight in the season, in spring the birds are quite talkative, in that way the interface can connect the listener to the season.

What kind of interaction does the interface facilitate?
Communication

In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
If the user is a bird it can sing too, adjust behavior to why the bird sings. If the user is a worm the singing can trigger survival instincts, if the user is a person they can listen and watch.

What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
The user needs to pay attention, if the user pays attention then the interface will work in a sense that the database of the neighborhood/ecosystem is partly portrayed. But the signs of the interface might me difficult to read.

Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
If the user is a bird then the interface might try to communicate certain things. Food, danger, mating.

How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
The interface affects the human user by bringing joy, relaxation, a summer feeling. The interface influences the bird user by telling communicating whatever is going on.

What/who does the interface give access to?
The interface gives access to car fuel.

What/who does the interface connect to or mediate between?
Between the companies acquiring/owning the fuel and the people using is.

What kind of interaction does the interface facilitate?
A drive through, an exchange of money for fuel. Digital money generally and physical fuel. So also digital and analog?

In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
The user can touch it, use it, watch it and the only thing ‘it’ does is show the fluctuating price, it gives fuel and accepts money.

What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
Drive, pay

Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
In a sense the interface being there plays a part in making the drivers drive, if there was no gas station there would be less driving by. But in the network of gas stations there would be no difference, the drivers would just go to the next gasstation.

How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
It can make you feel a certain way about the money, the changing number indicating the daily price and thus make you feel remorse/sad/angry about how expensive fuel can be.

For example: what does the user do, feel, learn, experience, change, think, sense etc. when using/experiencing this interface?
Consider how our senses our frame of reference and past experiences can play a part in how we relate to an interface.

5. The sky

What are the material or immaterial properties of the ‘interface’?
it always shows a colour, the weather, the temperature, the circadian rhythm, if you can read the signs it can show the location.

Who is the ‘user’ (can be more than one) of the ‘interface’?
I would say everything on earth is a user, and who knows, maybe also outside of earth. Astronauts can be users too.

Which ‘systems’ and/or ‘users’, are connected by means of the ‘interface’?
The global ecosystem, life.

What/who does the interface give access to?
The sky gives access to knowledge about the weather and the time of day, does it give acces to the sun? or is that more rotation of the earth and the sun and the clouds giving access to the sun. is the sun then the knowledge? Is the sun only what we can see? I don’t know. I would say the sky gives interface to time and weather.

What/who does the interface connect to or mediate between?
Life and the weather.

What kind of interaction does the interface facilitate?
An observing kind of interaction. A living can observe the sky and learn about the current day/surrounding, it is a local interaction. A plant uses the interface in a way that if the sky is clouded, there is not much synthesis, the plant than adjusts it’s internal process on it’s surrounding. This happens in general with the seasons. For people the sky facilitates our interaction and behavior towards/based on time, temperature and all sort of weather related factors.

In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
The interfaces steers the user to a certain period in the cycle, winter, summer, spring, fall. It can also interact by inspiring. The sky is a very inspiring part of our surrounding, it has an will be depicted and inspiring for a long time.

How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
The influence is our behavior, life adjusts to what the sky shows. Sunrise, rain, sun, wind, sunset, stars, clouds. Not just people, animals and plants also adjust their behavior to what the sky shows/make you feel. Plants don’t have eyes, so the sky influences not only by showing.

Maybe the sky is actually the signifier of the weather, but the weather felt like a too broad interface. But the sky is very visual.

For example: what does the user do, feel, learn, experience, change, think, sense etc. when using/experiencing this interface?
Consider how our senses our frame of reference and past experiences can play a part in how we relate to an interface.

6. The mirror
What are the material or immaterial properties of the ‘interface’?
Glass, reflective

Who is the ‘user’ (can be more than one) of the ‘interface’?
Anything reflected is the user and the database

Which ‘systems’ and/or ‘users’, are connected by means of the ‘interface’?
The light that makes reflection possible, the self and the self, the reflection in the eyes of the beholder.

What/who does the interface give access to?
It gives access tot the physical representation of the thing/self that is reflected.

What/who does the interface connect to or mediate between?
The actual physical representation and the acceptation/adaptation of how the reflection is taken in. How one person sees itself in the mirror is different than how I see the same person with my own eyes. So it connects the personal influence on how something is seen.

What kind of interaction does the interface facilitate?
Looking.

In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
The interface makes a person look at itself, reflect on itself and learn about itself. The user has to have eyes.

How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
Our own reflection is an intriguing thing, we can be obsessed with how look and how other perceive us, the mirror shows a person their direct reflection. However, what influences our reflection the most is how the brain morphs the thing we see. The thing to think about is whether we prioritize the reflection of the mirror or how we choose what we want our reflection to be.

For example: what does the user do, feel, learn, experience, change, think, sense etc. when using/experiencing this interface?
Consider how our senses our frame of reference and past experiences can play a part in how we relate to an interface.

7. Eyes

What are the material or immaterial properties of the ‘interface’?
Organic material, light sensitive, neurotic connections

Who is the ‘user’ (can be more than one) of the ‘interface’?
My brain is the user, but I am the brain, and I am also the eyes. So I am the interface and the user. But what my eyes translate to my brain might influence my behavior towards someone or something in my surrounding, and thus also serving that person or thing. So in that way another person can also be the user of my eyes.

Which ‘systems’ and/or ‘users’, are connected by means of the ‘interface’?
The light/the sun, the brain that influence how we experience everything, I believe my brain has control over what my eyes see, but I don’t have the facts to back this up. Connection through eyes is also an important thing, when I have eye contact with a person something happens, it is different than talking to a person without having eye contact. For instance when someon e is wearing heavy sunglasses, it is a different connection that is made or not made.

What/who does the interface give access to?
Everything that is reflecting light, and everything my brain does with it, and then again everything that influences another person or thing because of how my brain decides to handle the information.

What/who does the interface connect to or mediate between?
Anything that reflects light, including people and other eyes, and my brain.

What kind of interaction does the interface facilitate?
Processing, judging and acting certain information.

In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
The user can use the interface to get some bearings, the user has control on opening and closing the eyes, directing its view, altering by use of sunglasses.

How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
The interface influences the user a lot by literally showing the outside world, that has a lot of influence on a brain.

For example: what does the user do, feel, learn, experience, change, think, sense etc. when using/experiencing this interface?
Consider how our senses our frame of reference and past experiences can play a part in how we relate to an interface.

Which ‘systems’ and/or ‘users’, are connected by means of the ‘interface’?
the infrastructure of the Netherlands, all the neighbourhoods and parts of Rotterdam. But also the cyclists and the cars, the pedestrians and the metro. The whole system of transportation. The government and the economy plays a part, as the quality of the roads are an indication of overal welfare of a country. How the parks are connected/positioned can be related to the infrastructure, the harbour and the river needs to be taken into account, Rotterdam is a large city where infrastructure affects everything, easy flow of traffic, while being green, safe, decent air quality, everything is part of the system.

What/who does the interface give access to?
navigation

What/who does the interface connect to or mediate between?
the infrastructure is a literal connector between all the places and locations in Rotterdam and all of it's inhabitants. The infrastructure is the connector while literally being a road. It is a metaphorical and literal road system.

What kind of interaction does the interface facilitate?
not sure, movement?

In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
the user needs to move, without movement there is no need for roads or pathways.

How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
The interface decide the route the user takes, it decides what buildings you pass, how long you travel, it even decides the wind and the air you breathe. The user has control in what roads to take, but no choice in taking a road in general. The interface decides that. but who decides the interface? the government? The landscape?

9. Rain
What are the material or immaterial properties of the ‘interface’?
Rain is water, it carries a negative experience. People in Europe generally dislike rain. While in other dry areas, like India, rain is appreciated and celebrated.

Who is the ‘user’ (can be more than one) of the ‘interface’?
Anything alive needs water to live.

Which ‘systems’ and/or ‘users’, are connected by means of the ‘interface’?
The system of climate, the system of biological creation and degradation, also stones and other materials not directly ‘alive’.

What/who does the interface give access to?
Rain gives acces to life and growth, without rain there is no growth. Also importantly, there is no degradation of materials. Take a stone, the stone changes shape over time, this happends because of rain. Rain interacts with organisms, temperature and affects the materials it touches. The rock will slowly turn into sediment, travel to the river and the ocean to be used for rebuilding somewhere else. In this case, the rock is the user group. But what is a user? I don’t think the rock makes a choice in using the interface, it feels more like a process that happens, without something somewhere making a choice. But I don’t know if a user group has to make a choice to be a user.

What/who does the interface connect to or mediate between?
The interface connects the receiver, anything that is touched by rain, and the climate, the ‘rainmaker’.

What kind of interaction does the interface facilitate?
What if the rain facilitates a forced using. There is no choice for the user group, do they use the rain or not? It happens either way.

In what way can the ‘user’ interact with the ‘interface’?
What does the user need to do to make the interface work?
Or what does the interface try to make the user do?
The interaction is in allowing for the rain to change where it lands, to not try to actively stop the process rain stimulates. But then again, a rock can’t really do anything ‘actively’. I think
